The first is about a young orphan boy in Eastern Europe — the future Baal Shem Tov — dismissed by his own teachers as unpromising, who receives a mysterious visitor in a dream, a visitor who claims he was sent from Heaven itself. The second is about the saintly Reb Yisroel of Ruzhin, who goes searching for anyone still alive who remembers the hidden years of the Baal Shem Tov’s youth, and finds an old man with a story to tell. Then after I have two of my favorite selichot stories.
